Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Mahesh Giri sought the Centres intervention on the issue of delayed payments to the workers of municipal corporations here. He said due to delayed salary payments, sanitation workers were staging protests and heaps of garbage were seen lying all around the roads, alleging that the state government was not feeling the pain of those workers. Giri also sought to blame the previous Shiela Dikshit government for dividing municipal corporation into three units in 2012. He said apprehensions were raised by some quarters that if revenues would not be distributed properly, it may hinder the development of several areas.

"Today the situation is very painful. I have met those sanitation workers. They did not even celebrate the festival of Diwali. For last 6-7 months, they have not got any salary. When the state government was asked to allocate the funds to that municipal corporation, the Chief Minister asked us to go and ask to the Prime Minister. This is very bad," he said.
