6 killed, several injured as building caves in

Six labourers were killed in the city on Monday and several others are suspected to have been trapped as a two-storey building caved in when the construction work was in progress at the basement

According to police, the construction work was going on at the basement of the building near grain market in the city, when a portion of a newly-built wall caved in. It led to collapse of entire building. Six labourers, who working in the building, were killed and rescue teams have pulled out at least 12 workers from the rubble. They have been shifted to a local hospital, they added. 

Efforts were still on to rescue around eight labourers believed to be buried under the debris, police said, adding the area has been cordoned off. 

A fire tender and a team of Civil Defence were rushed to the spot after the incident. Four cranes also reached the spot to remove the debris.
