Can’t distrust Pakistan, let’s wait: Rajnath Singh

A day after some persons were arrested in Pakistan and Nawaz Sharif ordering a joint investigation team to probe the leads given by India in connection with the terror attack on Pathankot IAF base, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said here on Tuesday that India has no reason to distrust Pakistan’s assurance that it would take effective action on inputs given by New Delhi.

“Pakistan government has said it will take effective action. I think we should wait,” Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function here. 

Singh said since Pakistan has given the assurance to the Indian government, there should be no reason to disbelieve them so early. “There is no reason to distrust (avishvaas) them (Pakistan) so early,” he said. 

After the attack, India had said it has provided to Pakistan actionable intelligence to act upon the perpetrators. During a post-attack telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif, the government had said that “our PM very strongly urged the Pakistan PM to take action. India has called on Islamabad to act on the information if the Foreign Secretary-level talks are to take place as scheduled on 15 January. 

Meanwhile, in a setback for Pakistan, the US Congress has stalled sale of eight F-16 jets to Islamabad, amid growing anti-Pakistan sentiments on Capitol Hill over its reluctance to take action against terrorists. Citing diplomatic and congressional sources, the Dawn said US lawmakers had placed a “hold” on the proposed sale.
