The Andhra police in coordination with immigration authorities on Saturday night arrested YSR Congress Party MP P Mithun Reddy at Chennai airport, in a case of assaulting an Air India airport manager at Tirupati three months ago. Police took into custody Reddy and his associate Biyyapu Madhusudhan Reddy.
The immigration authorities apprehended Reddy as soon as he landed at Chennai airport around midnight on Saturday, based on a circular issued by the Andhra Police. The officials, who were waiting at the airport, then arrested him and taken him back to Andhra. He was later produced before a magistrate at Srikalahasti and were remanded to Judicial custody.
The Tirupati police had registered a case against Mithun Reddy and 15 of his associates based on a complaint filed by Air India station manager Rajasekhar.
According to the complainant, Mithun Reddy and his associates had assaulted him at Renigunta airport when the Air India ground staff refused to issue boarding passes to him and his family for a New Delhi bound flight as they reached the airport late.
Mithun Reddy and family had reached the Renigunta airport just 20 minutes prior to the departure of the flight on November 26, 2015. Usually, the boarding counters for domestic flights close 45 minutes prior to the scheduled departure.
