She felt it was only fitting then to read out a letter from her father, Prakash Padukone, as her acceptance speech. Fighting back tears, Deepika read out the letter which talks about Prakash Padukone’s early badminton days and his refusal to complain or whine about challenges.
“There is no substitute for perseverance, hard work, determination, and passion for what you do. If you love what you do, nothing else matters,” Deepika read out aloud.
Dedicating her award to her parents, Deepika ended her speech with a promise to parents all over the world on behalf of all children — words that fetched her tremendous applause from the audience and a standing ovation from Bajirao Mastani co-star Ranveer Singh.
The video has been shared online many times since and went instantly viral.
