JNU row : CPI MP receives calls threatening his daughter
Communist Party of India (CPI) MP, D Raja today claimed to have received calls threatening his daughter, who is a student activist in the Jawaharlal Nehru University(JNU).
New Delhi
The call was received on a day when the protest in which 'anti-India' slogans were raised at an event in JNU against the hanging of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, has led to a political controversy.
According to Mr Raja, he received a call last night from a person who was speaking in Hindi, and asked him 'why he was fighting with the ABVP and the BJP'. The caller threatened to kill his daughter as she was a student of this university.
The Rajya Sabha member also said he had received similar threatening calls from a man in Australia, who claimed to be an underworld don.
Earlier in the day, Mr Raja met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and apprised him about the threatening calls and demanded release of JNU Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, who was arrested in connection with the controversial event organised on the campus against the hanging of Afzal Guru.
