Railway steps for safe travel of women

For the safety and security of women passengers, the Railways has taken several steps, including installation of Close Circuit Televisions (CCTVs) and deployment of lady RPF constables, in ladies special trains

According to officials, on vulnerable and identified routes, around 2,300 trains were being escorted by Railway Protection Force daily. Besides, 2200 trains were being escorted by Government Railway Police (GRP) of different states. Policing on Railways was a state subject, prevention of crime, registration of cases, their investigation and maintenance of law and order in Railway premises as well as on running trains were the statutory responsibility of the state governments, which were discharged through GRP. 

However, Railway Protection Force (RPF) supplemented the efforts of the GRP to provide security to passengers, including women. Ladies special trains running in Metropolitan cities were being escorted by lady RPF constables, they added. The ladies compartments in sub-urban trains running in metropolitan cities were being escorted by RPF and GRP.
