Mango will be abundant not only in North but also in South India and this is due to good crop produce during the season of the year. The weather this season is conducive for excellent growth of the “mangoes” and there is no scare of crops being infected with pests or insects. In Uttar Pradesh, the state which is the leading producer of mangoes, the produce of the fruit this year is being considered the best as compared to the last three years.

Last year, due to bad monsoon, the crop had caught “Athronos” a pest infested disease which spoilt the produce spread in four lakh hectares. As a result, its production was severely affected. Prior to this too, the mango production was not so good.

Scientist Manish Srivastava, working with the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Pusa said,“The weather is very good for mango production until now and therefore there is hope of bumper production. Very famous and highly consumed ‘Desehriaam’ is likely to hit the markets by June 10.”

Besides prospects of Chausa, Langra and other varieties too are bright. Mango laden tress can be seen in Bihar, West Bengal and regions of south India.

The production of the ‘Amrapali’ variety of the fruit is also good in some parts of Odisha.

Dr Srivastava said that tough temperature this time was high, but other conditions were conducive for the crop and also the size of the fruit.

Farmers in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar say that this season, dust storms had been few and that had gone well for the survival of the fruit.

Maliahabad is already witnessing visits by foreign importers from the US, Britain, Japan and the Gulf. UP producers of the crop hope for a big jump in the export of mango this year.
