"Desperate attempt to start a 'black mechanism' with indelible ink shows this government distrusts the common people," she said in a tweet.

The Trinamool Congress supremo further said, "there are by-elections on November 19. What will the EC say about this decision to put indelible on prospective voters?"

DEA secretary Shaktikanta Das said, "Same people coming repeatedly responsible for long queues: banks to put indelible ink on people withdrawing money."

Banerjee, who is leaving for Delhi during the day, is scheduled to meet President Pranab Mukherjee on the issue of demonetisation of high value currency.

She spoke to the President on Sunday over the demonetisation move and said representatives of political parties would meet him next week over the issue.
