Prime Minister assures help, President concerned

Expressing concern over the rain situation in Mumbai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the people of the state to “stay safe” and take all essential precautions while speaking to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take stock of the developments.
“The centre assures all possible support to the Maharashtra Government in mitigating the situation due to heavy rains in parts of the state,” Modi said in a series of tweets.
President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday said government and public agencies were taking all steps to help people affected by torrential rains in Mumbai and his thoughts were with families, especially children, living in the worst-hit areas. He also appreciated voluntary groups and organisations which are helping people stranded in the flooded areas.
“Thoughts with families, especially children, in Mumbai and western parts of the country hit by heavy downpour. Govt and public agencies taking all steps amid heavy rains. Glad to note voluntary groups and citizens too coming together (sic),” he tweeted.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the State Disaster Management Control (SDMC) room and took stock of the situation. Charan Singh, Director, India Meteorological Department, said a ‘Red’ warning has been issued for the next 24 hours for the city and adjoining areas, indicating there could be very heavy rainfall.
