Railway Board (RB) has instructed chief commercial managers of all its zones to accept m-Aadhaar as valid identity proof. All that the passenger ought to do is download the m-Aadhaar app on which a person can download his/her Aadhaar.

In its commercial circular no: 62 of 2017 dated September 8, 2017, the railway board has instructed all zones to accept m-Aadhaar shown by the passenger on the mobile phone after entering a password as proof of identity for undertaking journey in any reserved class.

The railway board has consented the use of m-Aadhaar on the grounds that it would be password protected and downloaded only on the mobile number to which Aadhaar has been linked.

“UIDAI (unique identification authority of India) has launched a mobile app m-Aadhaar on which a person can download his/her Aadhaar.

It can be done only on the mobile number to which Aadhaar has been linked,” Vikram Singh, director (passenger marketing), RB, has stated in the circular. M-Aadhaar could be shown to the ticket examiner on the registered mobile number only after the traveler enters the password.

Acceptance of m-Aadhaar would reduce the risk of passengers losing their ID proofs during train journeys as well as help those absentminded passengers

who end up losing their confirmed seats for want of ID proofs they fail to bring.

In May, the board had instructed all zones to accept e-Aadhaar as one of the prescribed proofs of identity.
