Police sources said that all the victims hailed from Madhavapatnam and Indrapalem villages surrounding Kakinada and are returning after celebrating Christmas merrily at Chintur church.

It is stated that the van engine has developed severe heat forcing the driver to stop for a while to get it cool down.

The driver has put small boulders at the wheels to prevent the van from moving down. But they failed to work and the fully crowded van rolled down in to the deep valley. The 108 staff and the police have to toil hard for few hours to pull out the travellers from the ill-fated van.

The injured were rushed to the government hospital at Chintur. Since the condition of three among the injured was considered critical, doctors adviced them to move to government general hospital for expert medical treatment.

One of them has succumbed to injuries after getting admitted in the general hospital.

The Chintur police have registered a case and shifted the bodies to Government hospital at Rampachodavaram, for conducting post-mortem and further investigation is on, the sources said.
