Low-key Onam in Puducherry

Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala is usually celebrated with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm by the Malayalee community in the Union Territory.

However, the recent rain and flood in Kerala dampened the spirit of the celebrations and it was a low-key affair here this year. 

Though, clad in new dress, people visited temples to worship the deities in the early hours, the festivities were minimal.

Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, his cabinet colleagues, Lok Sabha member R Radhakrishnan, and leaders of different political parties among others greeted the people on the occasion.
