HC quashes I-T order sanctioning criminal prosecution against Chidambaram's kin

In a big relief for former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s family, the Madras High Court on Friday quashed the criminal prosecution initiated against them by the I-T Department under the Black Money Act.

A division bench of Justice S Manikumar and Justice Subramonium Prasad on allowing the appeals moved by Chidambaram’s wife Nalini, son Karti and daughter-in-law Srinidhi, set aside the sanction ordered by the Department to initiate criminal prosecution against them at the special court for cases under the Black Money Act at Egmore.

As per the case, the trio have failed to disclose a Rs 5.37 crore property they jointly own in Cambridge, UK and Rs 3.28 crore worth of properties in the US.
