Pondy CM pays tribute to Prapanjan

The body of Tamil writer and critic Prapanjan was consigned to flames at the Sanyasithoppu crematorium with full state honours here on Sunday evening.

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy paid rich tributes to Prapanjan who had passed away here two days ago. Narayanasamy visited the residence of Prapanjan and placed a wreath on his coffin on Sunday morning.


Speaking on the occasion, Narayanasamy said that he is the one who wrote the history of Puducherry for the public after the Anandarangapillai diary. His demise is an irreparable loss to the literary world as well as to Puducherry, he added. The people of Puducherry will ever remember him through his books, the Puducherry CM said.


Besides the Chief Minister, V C K leader Thol Thirumavalan, Lok Sabha member from Puducherry R Radhakrishnan and others paid tributes in person to the departed soul. A large number of people from different walks of life witnessed the cremation braving downpour.


Prabanjan, the pen name of S Vaidyalingam, was born in 1945 in the erstwhile French Colony, Puducherry. Being a prolific writer, Prabanjan received Sahitya Akademi Award, in 1995.
