The incident took place late Sunday night and the two accused were nabbed within two hours, they said.

The man, Zubair, is a meat seller in the area and suffered a thigh injury in the incident.

The accused -- Javed (33), a resident of Hapur in Uttar Pradesh and his associate Gulzar (27) who hails from Mustafabad -- were arrested after their vehicle's registration number was tracked down, officials said.

A pistol with 29 live cartridges was recovered from their possession, police said.

Investigations revealed that Zubair was on a scooter along with his friend Bilal when two persons arrived in a car.

A quarrel broke out between the two parties over a petty issue and both of them allegedly started abusing each other.

One of the accused opened fire at Zubair and fled the spot in their vehicle, a senior police officer said.

Zubair was rushed to Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment and stated to be stable. A case has been registered in this connection, police said.

Prima facie, it appeared that Javed was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The medical examination report is awaited, they said.
