ISRO launches ambitious programme for young scientists

With an aim to impart basic knowledge on Space Technology, Space Science and Space Applications to the younger generation to arouse their interest in the emerging areas of space activities, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched a special programme for school children called 'Yuva Vigyani Kryakram'(Young Scientist Programme) from this year.

According to ISRO,  with the intention to  catch them young, the two-week residential training programme will be held during summer vacation and proposes to select three  students each from each state  and union territory to participate in this programme every year covering CBSE, ICSE and state syllabus.

"Those who have finished Eighth standard and currently studying in the Ninth standard will be eligible for the programme," ISRO said.

Chief Secretaries of the respective States and UT administrators have been asked to select three students.

The selection is based on the academic performance and extracurricular activities, which is clearly mentioned in the selection criteria already circulated to State Chief Secretaries and UTs adminitrators.

"Students from the rural area have been given special weightage in the selection criteria. The list of the selected candidates from each state is expected by March end 2019," ISRO said in a statement.
