Over 1.46 crore voters will be exercising their franchise in the election, according to the final electoral roll published on Monday.

Announcing the schedule, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora told the media that the poll notification will be issued on January 14 while the last date for nominations will be January 21.  Scrutiny of nominations will take place on January 22 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations will be January 24.

“The counting of votes will be held on Feb 11 and the election process shall be completed by February 13,” he said adding the model of conduct for the elections will into force immediately. Asked whether the polls would be affected by the law and order situation in the wake of protests over CAA and other issues, Arora said the Commission held detailed discussions with the Delhi police, AAP and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

“We are hopeful that they will be able to control the situation and make it conducive to polls.  In any case during the polling process, if there is any extraordinary situation, we can defer the polls if required.  We have adequate powers under the Constitution to conduct the elections,” he added.
