As he sat brooding, an old man approached him and after sitting next to him, said, “I can see that something is troubling you. Can I be of any help?” The business explained about his mounting losses.
“I think I can help,” said the old man. He handed him a cheque, and said, “Make the most of it. Meet me here next year and I will collect,” and left the place hurriedly. The businessman looked at the amount. It was for $ 500, 000 and was signed, Rockefeller.
Amazed, he put the cheque in his pocket and immediately the knowledge that he had money boosted his self-confidence. “Instead of returning the loan, I will strike a better bargain with the vendors and make some profit,” he told himself. With determination he threw himself into his work and after six months, his hard work paid off.
Exactly a year later, the businessman, now prospering, returned to the park bench, with the cheque neatly tucked in the pocket. The old man soon arrived, and as he was about to return the cheque, a nurse hurried forward and frowned at the old man.
Turning to the businessman, she said, “Has he been troubling you? He resides in the asylum here. He thinks he is Rockefeller. Please do not take him seriously.”
Moral: It is not money, but self confidence, that is necessary to succeed in life
