Mukund is a complete package, say TN coaches

The two worked in close quarters with Mukund and their combined efforts saw Tamil Nadu finish the Ranji Trophy in the semi-final stage. 

Kanitkar said Mukund would have learnt the important lessons from his last international stint and said the Tamil Nadu skipper would make a better impact this time. “After working with him, I can vouch that Mukund is a focussed cricketer. He knows exactly what he has to do and he does more of smart  work along with hard work. He knows the areas where he needs to work on and I am sure he can make a huge impact, if he gets into the XI,” Kanitkar said. 

After being the natural choice to lead the state team, Kanitkar said Mukund’s experience in a leadership role will be a shot-inthe-arm for the left-hander. “At this stage, he knows how to prepare smart for the occasion. He is good at identifying the areas where he can contribute and consolidate and that is a big plus,” the head coach added. 

According to the fielding coach Avinash, Mukund is a complete package. “He is a more than a safe fielder. He is quick, both bet w e e n the wickets and behind the ball. Hardly a ball can go beyond him with a superlative fielding effort,” Avinash said. 

Avinash added that Mukund can field well at any position in the field. “He was an outfielder. In the longer format, he was manning the mid-on and midoff positions so that he can have a chat with the bowler. He can do wonders at slips and at gully too. He can easily adapt to the different fielding positions and has a good arm too. He rarely missed the target, be it a throw from the deep or from inside the circle,” the fielding coach said. 

Both the coaches concurred with the view that Mukund is a very matured cricketer. “He is very calculative with the bat. He knows his areas of scoring and knows how to get his runs. He can space himself with his training and his smart work is sure to do wonders,” the coaches added.
