Rikin shines for Chennai Slam

Chennai Slam handed Pune Peshwas their first loss of the season as they fought back from a 13 point deficit to win 88-84 in the Pro-basket league at the Satyabhama University stadium on Friday night.

Rikin Pethani was on song and was rightly adjudged the Indian man-of-the-match

Pune started off with a lineup of Pierre Newton, Siddhant Shinde, Amritpal Singh, Narender Grewal and Ajinkya Mehta. Chennai fielded Agu, Ram Kumar, Cammy, Rikin Pethani and Jairam Jat. 

In the exciting encounter, Pune led by 24-16 at the end of the first quarter as Amritpal scored 12 points. But Chennai bounced back to reduce the lead to 36-40 after the second quarter. 

Chennai started the second half with a close jumper from Rikin, the Income Tax player, while Shinde got a couple of steals to help Pune race to a 46-38 lead. Then Chennai fought back and ran Pune close.Chennai led Pune 68-58 going in to the fourth quarter. 

Indian player of the match for Chennai, Rikin Pethani was on song in the final quarter as the home team led 83-73. Pune made it 84-86 but that was all they could do. 

RESULT: Chennai Slam 86 (Cammy 19, Rikin Pethani 16, Jairam Jat 16) bt Pune Peshwas 84 (Pierre Newton 30, Amritpal Singh 24, Narender Grewal 14)
