Anand finishes third in Zurich Chess Challenge

Viswanathan Anand finished third in the Korchnoi Zurich Chess Challenge after he with 13.5 points from a possible combined score of 21 points. Anand scored 50 percent in the blitz section.

Hikaru Nakmura of US won the tournament as he totalled 15 points with 4.5 points from seven blitz games. Ian Nepomniatchi of Russia came second with 14 points and Anand’s total, after his 3.5 points from blitz, was on 13.5 points. Both Nepo and Nakamura had tallied 10.5 points each after the Classical rounds to Anand’s 10.  

The seven-round blitz segment was jointly won by Nakamura and Boris Gelfand of Israel with 4.5 points each. Anand beat Kramnik and Pelletier of Switzerland but lost to Gelfand and Nepo in the blitz section.
