Jolly Rovers could only add two runs to its overnight score of 263/8 before Aswin Crist cleaned up its tail. Vijay CC was off to a horrid start losing K B Arun Karthik in the first over but a 135-run partnership between Baba Aparajith (116 off 174 balls) and Abhinav Mukund (59 off 76 balls) put Vijay's chase back on track.

Once Mukund fell to R Sathish in the 29th over, Jolly Rovers sensed an opened and started to make steady inroads. A seventh wicket partnership of 32 in 77 balls between Malolan Rangarajan and Aparajith was the second best partnership in Vijay's innings.

Aparajith’s 116 came in 174 balls and was studded with 12 boundaries and two sixes. It was his fifth ton of the season. Spinner DT Chandrasekar was the wrecker-in-chief returning figures of 5/112 from 29.4 overs.

Incidentally, Chandrasekar bowled all his overs in a single spell as Vijay was bowled out for 249. In the second essay, Jolly Rovers was 60/0 in 19 overs when stumps were drawn for the day. Kaushik Gandhi (37 off 48 balls) and S Lokeshwar (20 in 68 balls) were holding fort.
