In a chat, the Chepauk Super Gillies skipper spoke about his side’s first win in the tournament as well as the talent in his side.
Excerpts:
How does it feel to win your first match of the season?
It’s always good to start with a win. Last season we started with a loss. It feels good as we had a good crowd supporting us. And winning this match means a lot to us.
Was it a conscious decision to bowl out your quota of overs at the start?
I even did this in the last season, where I bowled almost all the four overs together but not in all the games. Whenever there is the momentum and I am bowling well, I think I must finish off my overs and take some wickets, if I can.
Share your thoughts on Sai Kishore, who bowled the first maiden over in this edition.
He’s a fantastic bowler, even last season he did very well and he even contributed to help Tamil Nadu win the trophy. He’s doing a great job; it’s just a matter of time before he reaches the next level of cricket.
What are your thoughts on your bowling unit who have been economical?
Our bowlers are doing a good job. Hopefully, they continue to do so during the rest of the tournament and help us to win the trophy.
Was there any strategy behind sending S Karthik in at No. 3?
We had a few practice sessions and Karthik was playing pretty well. There is no point keeping him just for the slog overs. When a batsman is playing well we make sure that we give them the opportunity so that he can showcase his talent and prove his worth.
Could you share one word on the crowds that came out to support you?
Fantastic! Thank you very much. Hopefully, we get the same crowd for the next match.
