Was it a calculated move to send you to open the batting?
We like to exploit the powerplay overs and score maximum runs in the first six overs. It was a chance we took and it worked out well in our favour.
What was your plan when you set out to bat?
I was due a big score. I am a positive player and I just planned to stick to the basics. It just went my way today.
Did you plan your chase because the target wasn’t a big one?
We wanted to play to the merit of the ball and not lose many wickets in the powerplay overs. The plan was to utilise the first six overs. Once I got set, I just wanted to continue scoring runs.
Would you have batted first as well?
It was a very flat wicket and we would have batted first had we won the toss. Well, 120 is a pretty normal score on this wicket, especially with the short boundaries. I think 150-160 could have been a par score.
What do you have to tell about the home support?
I am basically from Madurai but the crowd support here is amazing. I have played for a few years here and credit to the management for maintaining such a wonderful ground. It feels like you are in New Zealand.
