We are a big, happy family, says Chepauk Super Gillies coach
It looks like last year’s runners-up Chepauk Super Gillies has continued their good from into the second edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League with impressive performances. The team has worked like a well-oiled machine with players rising to the occasion when it mattered.

CSG coach Hemang Badani said while he was happy with his team’s performance, he noted that the team could be better.
How satisfied are you with the team's performance?
In all fairness, it is good to be in the top half of the table. I still feel we can play better than the way we have played. The most important thing I have told the players is that it is not just about winning but doing the right things. I still feel we aren't doing everything right. We have done well and we are winning, but there is scope for improvement.
Where do you think the team needs to improve?
There are times we have lost wickets when the game was in our control. By doing so, we give the other side a chance to come back into the game. It is important to win convincingly. It is not just about points on the table but playing well and playing consistent cricket.
Is there too much pressure on the top order to perform?
It is a trend in the tournament. All top-order batsmen have done well. They set the tone, be it Washi (Washington Sundar) or Kaushik Gandhi or Chaturved or Thalaivan (Sargunam) and KH Gopinath for us. There is S Aniruda as well. It is easier to bat at the top when the ball is harder because it tends to get a little bit difficult when the ball is older and it grips and turns a bit. Having said that, the most important thing is we have had our middle order tried and tested. We have got Sati (R Sathish) having a hit and Sasi (U Sasidev) coming good once again in a tight situation. These things will stand good for us when we go ahead in the tournament.
As a coach, what makes Chepauk stand apart from the rest of the teams?
Simply put, we are a family. You can ask any of the players or support staff in our side, the first thing they would say is that we enjoy each other's success. We love playing together and we are a big, happy family.
What does the experience of playing in the TNPL mean to a player?
It is an amazing tournament for the simple fact that a lot of these guys normally play league cricket but don't get a chance to play under lights. They don't play white-ball cricket with 10,000 to 15, 000 people turning up to watch the game. The finals last year had 25,000 people turning up. It is also televised and people see it and if you do well, you get a chance to be picked for the Indian Premier League. This is the best thing that has happened for these kids. What more can you ask for a player who is just playing league cricket and is looking to climb up the ladder.
