Balasubramaniam reigns supreme
H.Balasubramaniam of Padma Seshadri Higher Secondary School, KK Nagar, Chennai emerged the champion of the 17th Adyar Times FIDE rated Open chess Tournament at the Montfort Indoor Stadium, Santhome Higher Secondary School on Monday.

An eighth standard student at PSBB School, Balasubramaniam carried home the winner’s prize of Rs. 25,000. He showed his class while taming former Tamil Nadu State champion Ram S Krishnan in the seventh and the final round to collect 6.5 points.
In a three-way tie for first place, Balasubrananiam was adjudged champion on account of better Bucholtz tiebreak score. The runner-up was R. Ashwath of Chennai who became richer by Rs 15,000. The third place went to school boy Manu David Suthandaram.
