Immaculate Heart girls, St Andrews’ boys win

Immaculate Heart of Mary Girls’ HSS and St Andrews High School boys scored contrasting victories in the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament here on Thursday.

Immaculate Heart of Mary Girls? HSS defeated Government Girls HSS 10-0

The Immaculate Heart girls walloped Government Girls HSS 10-0 in a junior girls’ qualifying match, with Sowmiya leading the charts with four goals (5th, 10th, 13th, 38th). Keerthana scored three (1st, 13th, 42nd) of her own to completely outplay the Government Girls’ team. 

Vincy (4th), Shivani (8th) and Jayashree (40th) were the other goal-scorers. In the day’s other fixture, a qualifier for junior boys, St Andrews High School had to rely on penalty kicks to stay alive in the tournament. 

After its match against Baynes Memorial Baptist HSS remained goalless in regulation time, it pumped in one extra goal to advance. St Andrews began on false note, with Manikandan missing his first shot at goal. 

But Sarajay, Subash, Balaji and Ravi Chandran converted the remaining four to help their side win. For Baynes Memorial, Arvind, Azhagiri and Samraj succeeded from the penalty spot. Sanjay and Mukesh missed their kicks.
