Saina’s father granted access to Commonwealth Games Village

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has now granted Saina’s father access to the Athletes’ Village at the 2018 CWG in Gold Coast, Australia.

Confirming the news, Saina said that she would like to thank the IOA and Sports Minister Rajyawardhan Rathore for helping her out in this accreditation issue. She also issued an apology “for all the trouble” she caused over the matter. 

“I would like to thank IOA secretary Rajiv Mehta and team IOA for all the support and also Rajyawardhan Rathore for helping me out with this accreditation issue. It is sorted and I would like to apologise if I have given any trouble to them,” Saina said. 

Meanwhile, Saina also took to her Twitter account to acknowledge the effort put in by the IOA in resolving the issue in such a short span of time. 

“Thank u so much @ioaindia for the support and help sorting out my father’s accreditation card in such short notice ..Hopefully it will be great for the matches ahead ..and I m sorry for all the trouble #CommonwealthGames2018,” she wrote on Twitter. 

An official in the IOA confirmed that Saina had indeed written a letter. “It’s our duty to help the sportspersons. They should focus on winning medals. Yes, Saina had written to a senior official. But we don’t want to make an issue out of it. As it is, we have solved her problem. We wouldn’t like to comment on the contents of the letter,” a senior IOA official said.
