Action during the match between Chennai FC and Chennai United FC in the CFA Senior Division League

Chennai

Chennai FC which struggled in the early part of its campaign with unavailability of some key players produced moments of magic from the beginning. Chennai United which scored 10 goals in its previous match failed to open its account this time. Chennai FC played with an aggressive mindset and reaped the rewards quickly through Timmy Ryngkhlem who put his team ahead in the fifth minute.

Chennai United made several futile attempts to pull one goal back but was let down by some poor finishing. Chennai FC added two more to its tally in the first-half with Ryngkhlem scoring his second and the team’s third in the first-half added time.

Joseph Segun chipped in with a brace of his own with one in the first-half and the other came deep into the seconf-half. Harizon piled on the misery on Chennai United by scoring in the 90th minute. With this heavy defeat, things are looking bleak for Chennai United in its bid to avoid the dreadful drop to the first division.

The goals continued to flow in the second match as well when Viva Chennai made short work of RBI winning 3-0. Viva Chennai, however, is out of the title race after dropping valuable points in the earlier rounds against Indian Bank and Chennai FC.

Viva’s Basant Raj was firmly in the spotlight scoring two goals in the space of six minutes after Eze Daniel opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Those three goals sealed the fate of the tie and that of RBI’s. RBI has suffered a dip in form after making a promising start to its campaign and it will be determined to overcome this slump before the league concludes.

RESULTS: Senior Division: Chennai FC 5 (Timmy Ryngkhlem 5, 45+2, Joseph Segun 31, 88, Harizon 90) bt Chennai United FC 0; Viva Chennai 3 (Eze Daniel 25, Basant Rai 32, 38) bt RBI 0. First division: Rangoon FC 0 drew with AGORC 0; Tamilnadu Police 1 drew with Chennai City Police 1
