Ravichandran Ashwin celebrates the wicket of Alastair Cook

After opting to bat under slightly damp conditions, they have lost just the wicket of Cook - to a beauty by Ashwin which ripped from middle to hit the top of off. Jennings has been dropped and a few inside-edges dribbled wide of the stumps, but apart from that it has been a good toss to win and then bat.

England made use of the conditions which the hosts have done well so far.

Umesh's poor opening spell brought Ashwin early in the 7th over and he immediately struck. Ishant and Shami bowled well with the latter looking sharp.

England will use these batting conditions and make the most out of it.

There's something in it for the spinner as well, but tough to say whether this warranted a two-spinner theory. Both the teams have read the pitch and picked their suitable combinations.

Brief Scores: 1st Test, Day 1 at Lunch: England are 83/1 (Keaton Jennings 38*, Joe Root 31*; Ravichandran Ashwin 1/13) in 28 overs.
