Will contribute more in coming games: Chhangte
Soon after Lallianzuala Chhangte nutmegged Kerala Blasters FC shotstopper TP Rehenesh to open his account for Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2019-20, head coach Owen Coyle went berserk on the touchline, fisting his pumps in euphoria.

The wideman from Mizoram then ran towards the gaffer, wrapped him in his arms and gave a bear hug close to the dugout, marking a moment of monumental significance for both parties involved. Since making the move from Delhi Dynamos FC (now Odisha FC), Chhangte had found the going tough in front of goal, often panicking in the final third.
“I am really happy to have scored my first goal for the club. I hope to continue (my good form),” said Chhangte, ahead of CFC’s home fixture against FC Goa. “Our work with the backroom staff on a daily basis helps us to improve on the pitch. They are helping me with how to make wiser decisions. As the season goes on, more goals and assists will come from my side,” added the confident-looking winger.
CFC manager Coyle, who had revealed that grooming the youth players is one of his priorities, is the latest addition to the list of Chhangte’s admirers. “He epitomises what we are trying to do. He plays with a smile on his face and that’s what we are asking players to do. We want them to express themselves and try to win the game. Winning is the best feeling,” the Scot was full of praise for the summer signing.
India international Chhangte had seven fruitless outings before breaking the duck against Kerala, but the 53-year-old boss isn’t concerned with his boy’s wayward form. According to Coyle, mistakes are bound to happen when one plays at such a good pace. “He has shown that he has the end product. I am glad that he is creating something.”
The former Burnley manager remarked Chhangte is doing one of the toughest jobs in football – penetrating and getting behind defences – effortlessly. “He does it so easily. We are just helping him with the final part. His attitude, desire and drive in the training ground are incredible. For me, it sets a terrific example for everyone in the team,” concluded Coyle.
