It was first noticed by people who went to take bath in the Tamirabarani River early in the morning. When they saw the bullets on the banks, they were shocked and immediately informed the police. The police in turn rushed to the spot and made arrangements to carry out the investigation. As a result, Kallidaikurichi, in Tirunelveli district, was all tense, on Thursday, as sleuths attached to all the investigative agencies camped at Kallidaikurichi after 21 .303 British type bullets were found in the banks of Tamirabarani.
In the meantime, the news of the bullets had spread throughout the town and people started thronging the river banks. Investigation agencies too arrived at the spot and carried out investigation. In the investigation, police could not find any lead and suspected that some persons would have thrown the bullets in the river banks. Police searched the area and found 21 bullets.
Police sources claim that all the 21 bullets belonged to the 1981 year model. They therefore ruled out any possible involvement of terrorist angle in the incident. It might have been used for hunting animals, claimed sources.
