The service has to be suspended as boulders and trees fell on the track in a landslide between Hillgrove Railway Station and Runnymede Railway Station, affecting the track. Officials in the Salem Railway Division said that the service would be initially suspended only for a day, but it was extended to three days and four day as it took time for breaking the boulder into smaller pieces and removing it from the track using trolleys.
Railway officials said that the track was mended and is ready for operation from Monday morning. The Nilgiri Mountain Rail is one of the preferred mode of travel among tourists who visit Udhagamandalam. Families with children love to take the train as the travel is a scenic one in the mountains. As the demand is more during weekends there was disappointment among the tourists as they had to take the bus. But there were others who still preferred to board the train from Coonur to Udhagamandalam as the services were not disrupted in this section.
