Man, goat rescued from well in Coimbatore
Fire and rescue services personnel rescued a man and a goat from a well at Pungampalli village near Sathyamangalam in Erode District on December 20.

Villagers said the goat first fell into the well. M Prakash, a villager jumped into the well to rescue it. But both of them got stuck in the 45-feet-deep well for close to three hours. The goat was among the nearly 10 goats owned by K. Lakshmi (74) of Pungampalli village. The woman opened the pen on Tuesday for the goats to graze. One of the goats climbed the side wall of the well. While jumping from one side of the well to the other it accidentally fell in and was struggling for life. Lakshmi tried to get help from villagers and fellow villager Prakash who came by that way jumped into the well and caught hold of the goat. Villagers lowered a rope into the well to help them get out of the well, but Prakash could not climb out with the animal in hand. sWhen their attempts failed, they alerted fire and rescue services personnel, who successfully brought the man and the goat out of the well after a three-hour long rescue operation.
