Voter count dips in Kovai, Nilgiris
The draft electoral roll for the 10 Assembly segments in Coimbatore district that was released saw a dip in the number of voters by 72 persons as against the rolls released on September 1, 2016. There was a marginal dip in The Nilgiris district too.

Coimbatore Collector T N Hariharan who released the voters list said that a total of 90,982 new voters were addedt. This included 21,804 youth aged 18 and 19 years old. However, a total of 91,054 names were deleted from the list. Releasing the list, he said that the names removed from the list included 31,966, who were dead.
A total of 42,240 names were removed for multiple entry and 16,848 names were removed as they shifted. This resulted in a drop in the number of voters. In the three Assembly segments in The Nilgiris, the number dropped by 18,962 voters. However, there was an increase in the number of voters in the six other districts in western part.
In Tirupur, names of 56,076 voters were newly added, taking the total number of voters in the eight Assembly segments to 21,55,200. This includes 10,77,899 female voters, which is a little more than the 10,77,062 males. The district also has 239 transgender voters.
The eight Assembly seats in Erode had a total of 18,42,012 voters including 9,06,048 male, 9,35,866 female and 98 transgenders. While the names of 48,903 persons were added in the rolls, 30,182 names were removed. Women voters outnumbered men in Namakkal.
The number of voters climbed from 13,50,988 to 13,79,381 in the six Assembly segments. This includes 7,04,147 female voters against 6,75,123 males. There were 111 transgender voters. A total of 4,221 names were removed. In the 11 Assembly segments in Salem, there were 28,43,773 voters including 14,23,863 male, 14,19,827 female and 83 transgender voters.
While 81,538 names were added 35,314 were removed. Rolls in the five Assembly segments in Dharmapuri has 11,84,011 voters, against 11,60,195 voters in the rolls last year. It includes 6,02,763 males, 5,81,114 females and 134 transgenders. In Krishnagiri the total number of voters climbed from 14,54,544 to 14,85,234. The total number of voters in the six Assembly segments in the district included 7,53,660 men and 7,31,379 women. As many as 44,770 names were newly added to the list and 14,080 names have been deleted.
