Drizzle fails to dampen Republic Day spirit in delta districts

Though it was drizzling in several parts of delta districts, the spirit of celebration of Republic day was high and public thronged to the celebration venues to witness the programmes and to commemorate the historical event.

Thiruchirapalli

In Tiruchy, district collector K S Palanisamy unfurled the national flag and inspected the guard of honour on January 26. Public servants, freedom fighters and families of former armed personnel were felicitated by the district administration for their distinguished services. Welfare measures for a sum of Rs 81.36 lakhs were distributed to over 190 beneficiaries of various departments. 

Similarly, as many as 24 workers who have completed 25 years of service were felicitated with a cash award of Rs. 2,000 and certificate of merit by Corporation Commissioner N Ravichandran. In Thanjavur, District collector A Annadurai, unfurled the tricolour at the Armed Reserve police ground. The collector distributed welfare assistance worth Rs 46.80 lakhs to nearly 324 beneficiaries including those with disabilities, ex-servicemen and others. 

As many as 32 police personnel were awarded the Chief Minister medal. In Tiruvarur Collector L Nirmal Raj, hoisted the national flag at the collectorate and distributed welfare assistance worth Rs 15.9 lakh to 34 beneficiaries. 

Similarly, in Pudukkottai, the collector S Ganesh who unfurled the tri colour honoured GS Dhanapthy, president of All India Formers Forum and director of Pudukkottai Organic Farmers Producers Company. Parimaladevi, dean cum special officer, govt medical college, Pudukkottai was given a honoured for her 25 years of dedicated government service.
