Indian gaur gores farmer to death in The Nilgiris
A farmer, Murughaiah (49), of Thoothur Mattam near Kolakombai in The Nilgiris was gored to death by an Indian gaur. He and his son-in-law tried to chase away three gaurs from their vegetable farm when the incident happened.

On January 30 morning, when Murughaiah and his son-in-law Suresh went to their land, they spotted three gaurs grazing the cultivated vegetables. They tried to chase them away. One of the animal, enraged by it, charged at Murughaiah and Suresh. The duo fled for their lives. While Suresh managed to escape, the gaur knocked Murughaiah down and gored him.
When the animal left the place, neighbours rushed the badly injured farmer to the government hospital at Kolakombai. He was referred to Coonoor Government Hospital. But the farmer died on the way to the hospital. Coonoor forest and police personnel conducted preliminary inquiries. Forest personnel gave a sum of Rs 50,000 as initial relief to the farmer’s family. They said that the rest of the relief of Rs 3.5 lakh would be given to the victim’s kin soon.
