Goondas Act slapped on Hindu Munnani man held for murder
The Hindu Munnani union secretary, who was arrested on charges of raping and murdering a minor Dalit girl over a month ago, was detained under the Goondas Act in Ariyalur. Meanwhile, CPM demanded for a CB-CID inquiry into the case.

According to sources, the body of a 17-year-old Dalit girl, who was suspected to be raped and murdered, was found at a well in Sirugambur village on December 29. The Irumbukurichi police registered a case and arrested four persons including Manikandan, a Hindu Munnani union secretary and his friend Manivannan. They were lodged in the prison recently.
On Friday, Ariyalur district Collector A Saravanavel Raj recommended to detain Manikandan under the Goondas Act. The letter was forwarded to the Tiruchy central prison where he has been lodged.
Meanwhile, CPM state secretary G Ramakrishnan, who visited the parents of the girl, demanded a CB-CID inquiry into the case. He pointed out that the parents of the victim had already lodged a complaint when the girl was reported missing but the police had failed to take it into account. He also demanded a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the kin of the victim.
