Reading the speech copy prepared for him by his secretary for a private hospital function, the Governor declared it in his opening remarks itself and added that he prefers reading it to avoid making any politically controversial statement. On Sunday, Vidyasagar Rao launched 3D, 4K Technology Facility and Robotic Surgery Centre at a private hospital in the city.

At the event, he asked doctors to practice medicine with intelligence, patience and humane touch. He made an appeal to corporate and multi-specialty hospitals to extend support to revive the spirit of research and innovation in healthcare. He was in praise of laparoscopy, calling it a boon for poor labourers as it helped them recover fast and get back to work unlike open surgeries.

Expressing the need to strengthen primary health care system and integrate it, the Governor said that advancements in technology should be harnessed to improve the public health care system. Stating that health is one of the greatest assets of the nation, he felt that modern medicines should be made available to all the citizens at an affordable cost.

Expressing concern over the increase in cancer cases in India, he attributed dietary habits, consumption of junk and spicy food as the major causes of increase in food pipe cancer. Rao appealed to doctors, education institutions and NGOs to join hands to create awareness among the people on good dietary habits, early diagnosis and prevention of cancer.

The Governor was received by Coimbatore District Collector T N Hariharan earlier in the day. After the programme in Coimbatore, he left to Udhagamandalam for a two-day stay.  But he returned to Coimbatore in the evening to catch a flight to New Delhi.
