Leading the protest, Desiya Thennidia Nadigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam state president P Ayyakannu, said, “The ongoing political tussle and the impasse in the government machinery has been adversely affecting them in getting relief on time. As of now, the drought compensation remains only on paper. We need decisive steps from the government officials to compensate us for the crop loss.” He also claimed that the revenue officials were not providing definite answers to their queries. “They blame it on the ongoing political crisis,” he added.

The sudden protest by the farmers threatening to end their life created a flutter during the weekly grievance day meet at the Collectorate. Ayyakannu said that similar protests would be staged in front of the Raj Bhavan in Chennai on Wednesday if their demands were not immediately addressed.
