The injured girl was rushed to the GH and is slowly recovering.
It is said, the victim, a 16-year-old girl, who was studying Class 11 in a government school nearby Alunthalaipur village was approached by C Manikandan (23), an engineering graduate from same village, with a love proposal. However, the girl rejected the proposal and also informed her father about the youth.
It is learnt that a week ago, the victim’s father had reportedly advised the youth Manikandan not to disturb his daughter anymore and warned of lodging a complaint with the police. Angered by the warning, Manikandan had planned to meet the girl one more time and to assault her if she refuses this time.
As per his plan, on Saturday morning, when the victim was returning back, Manikandan held out a knife and stopped her and proposed his love. The girl, once again reportedly refused to accept his proposal.
He then stabbed her multiple times in the neck, shoulders and stomach following which she collapsed on the spot. Soon, the onlookers rushed the victim to a nearby Primary Health Centre (PHC), from where she was referred to Lalgudi government hospital, and finally to Tiruchy government hospital. The condition of victim was said to be stable after undergoing a surgery.
Meanwhile, as the victim’s parents lodged a complaint with the Siruganur police over the assault, the accused, Manikandan fearing police action for his crime, had reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in a farmland close to Siruganur.
