Chandran, attached to Polimer TV at Madurai, had filed a police complaint against the drug peddlers in his locality and they had retaliated by attacking his son. Recently, when the ganja menace increased in the locality, residents lodged a complaint thinking that Chandran was behind the incident and the two ganja peddlers stabbed him on Sunday.

He was recovering and admitted at a private hospital in Madurai. The incident had brought great uproar amongst journalists and political parties. Journalists unions across the state had condemned the incident and even DMK Working President, MK Stalin, had condemned the incident on Sunday.

On Monday, VCK too condemned the incident. In the press release they had claimed that Chandran was attacked by drug peddlers of the locality and despite knowing the accused, none have been arrested so far. Condemning the inaction of police VCK had demanded the police to arrest the accused immediately. The accused should also be served Goondas order. “The ganja sales and smuggling had increased in the state and Police department should take immediate action to stop smuggling,” they said.

Journalists are the fourth pillar of democracy and hence their protection should be ensured demanded VCK.

Accused surrenders in court

Meanwhile one of the accused Karuppu alias Karuppaiya who had stabbed Chandran, on Sunday, had surrendered at a court at Nilakottai in Dindigul district, on Monday. But another accused Dinesh who had also stabbed Chandran is still absconding.
