In the petition filed by petitioner, Rajaselvan, from Vedasandur, he had said that in Dr Ambedkar Government Law University, Madurai Kamaraj University and in Madras University posts of VCs, Registrars and COEs are lying vacant.

In Anna University and in the Fisheries University the post of VCs, in Tamil Nadu Teacher Training University and in Bharathiyar University the post of Registrar, in Thiruvalluvar University and in Tamil Nadu Open University posts of Registrar and COEs and in Dr Ambedkar Law University the post of Dean is vacant.

The posts of VCs, Registrars, COEs and Deans are key in any University. As there are lot of vacancies in teacher’s post in the state the School Education had taken a heavy toll and now similarly the Higher Education too is suffering. Owing to the vacancies of VCs and Registrars convocation functions could not be conducted at the Universities. In Madurai Kamaraj University the post of VC has been vacant for nearly two years.

As there are lot of vacancies in key posts in 9 state universities the High Court should direct the state government and Governor, who is the Chancellor of all the Universities, to appoint the officials and to fill the vacancies. When the petition was heard on Wednesday, Division Bench had sent notice to Governor and to Principal Secretary of Higher Education and had adjourned the case.
