Post all info on site or lose funding, UGC warns universities

Conveying this to reporters in Coimbatore on Saturday on the sidelines of the convocation of a deemed university, UGC secretary Jaspal Singh Sandhu said, this advisory has been issued in response to allegations of universities violating the norms set by the UGC. 

He said that all the information pertaining to financial matters, appointments to fee structure, everything should be uploaded in the public domain for bringing about transparency in administration. 

Sandhu said that those universities, which have not uploaded these information onto the sites, will be given two months time to feed the  data. “If they don’t abide by it, names of such institutions will be added to the list of defaulting universities (on the UGC website). In addition to this, they will also lose the UGC funds,” he warned.

When asked about violations by some State universities in recruitment and other aspects of functioning, the he said that the commission writes to the Chief Secretary and the Higher Education Secretary of the respective Governments to initiate appropriate action against those varsities, as they were under their purview. 

The National Academic Depository, for which the UGC is the nodal agency, is all set to be the one stop point for depositing all their education certificates online. “Students can deposit all their certificates from Class 10, Class 12 to PhD. They will be given an account and password,” he said.
