People watching activities of Opposition, warns Palanisamy

Addressing a gathering after launching various government projects, he said that political parties, which were working with the sole agenda of capturing power and overthrowing an elected government, would not be accepted by the people. 

Recalling the definition of the Opposition as stated by former chief minister J Jayalalithaa Palanisamy said an Opposition party was not a group which always opposes the principles and schemes of the government. Democracy would be incomplete without the Opposition and they have the responsibility to point out the flaws of the ruling party in a wise and constructive manner, he added. 

“The people are watching what the opposition leaders are doing and talking ill of the ruling party alone has become their job. They are trying to create an image as if the nation will stumble without them,” he said and added that people would gauge the opposition only by their constructive actions. “Opposition must change their desires,” he said. 

On the demand for permitting farmers to tap Neera (Coconut toddy), he said “The government is considering to grant permission to farmers, as I have received representations from farmers of several western districts, including Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, and the elected representatives of this region.” He added “Neera is a non-alcoholic and natural healthy drink. Farmers can earn better profits by tapping it and the by-products of coconut trees.”  

The Chief Minister’s statement is a ray of hope for the farmers in the region, which has vast tracts of coconut farms, especially in Pollachi and Udumalpet.  

Speaking on the construction of check dams by Kerala across River Bhavani, Palanisamy said that the government has been fighting against it. “We have moved the Supreme Court on February 1. I have also made an appeal to the Prime Minister not to allow check dams across the Pambar and Bhavani,” he said.
