Anti-seemai karuvelam songs released
A compact disc, containing songs creating awareness about the removal of seemai karuvelam (Prasopis juliflora) written by a lawyer was released in the private chamber of a judge attached to the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Tuesday.

Ever since the seemai karuvelam petitions were filed in the High Court, judges expressed their concern to remove the invasive species throughout the state and had given ultimatum to all district collectors to remove the plants completely.
Recently, a dedicated bank account for removal of the seemai karuvelam plants was opened and Justice Selvam donated Rs 10,000.
Court sources said that so far, Rs 2.5 lakh has been deposited in the bank account opened to eradicate seemai karuvelam.
MDMK leader Vaiko who petitioned the court on this issue too donated Rs 15,000. On Tuesday, a CD containing songs on removing seemai karuvelam was released by Justice Selvam and it was received by senior lawyer Ajmal Khan.
The songs were written by lawyer Kannan, who is one of the Advocate Commissioners appointed by High Court to oversee the process of removal of seemai karuvelam at Sivaganga district. Nellai Abu Backar composed the music and sang the songs.
