Madurai biker gangs snatch mobiles from students

Students in Madurai seem to be an easy target for bike-borne robbers who snatch mobile phones from them. Two students were robbed off their valuables and mobiles on Tuesday in Madurai.

Maharajan (18), a college student from Anupanadi in Madurai, was walking during the wee hours on Tuesday near Teppakulam Police station. Two men on a bike suddenly stopped him and robbed him off his 1.5 sovereigns chain and smartphone. He filed a complaint with Teppakulam police. In another incident Manikandan, a Class 9 student at Solaialagupuram in Madurai, was on his way home, when he was intercepted by two men near Nallathambithoppu. They demanded his mobile phone and when he refused, he was attacked with a sickle. Manikandan sustained injuries and handed over the phone to them. 

His parents reported the incident at the Avaniyapuram police station. Meanwhile one of the robbers involved in the case has been identified as Malayandi. 

A police official claims that teenagers are attacked as they are soft targets and parents need to be careful and keep a watch on their wards.
