The decison to remove Dr G Josephine R Little Flower was taken at the 197th original general body meeting of the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council. The Council decided to invoke Rule 1 of Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Act, 1926, against Dr Josephine for failing to safeguard the interest and dignity of the council.
Dr Josephine was appointed as deputy registrar in the Council on July 1, 2003, and she was later appointed as registrar of council in 2004. She was also deputed to the Government of India as Nursing Advisor in October in the year 2012. “However, a lot of complaints from the public, NGOs and Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, were received against Dr Josephine.”
“Some of the complaints that were listed against Dr Josephine include mismanagement in the affairs of the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council, statutory violations causing disrespect to the council, undue favour to some institutions for personal gains and assets disproportionate to her known sources of income,” an office-bearer of the council said.
The State government had referred several complaints to the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council for inquiry, following which the registrar was removed. As per resolution no 40 of the 19th General Body meeting of the Council on March 21 this year, there was prima facia evidence to proceed against her and the Council also said that Dr Josephine continuing as registrar would be prejudicial to the interest of the council.
