The Bar Council of India had barred 25 Tamil Nadu lawyers from practicing. They had protested against corruption in the judiciary. Among them, nine were barred for one year, nine others for three years and seven for a life time.

Because of the ban on their practise the lawyers are frequenting the Supreme Court and are fighting a case against the decision of the Bar council of India. They are spending a huge amount of money on that count.

The lawyers allege that though their counterparts from Kerala and Uttar Pradesh too had participated in the protest, only lawyers from Tamil Nadu were barred from practising. “This action is biased,” they alleged.

“We want the ban to be revoked,” they said. If the Bar Council of India turns a blind eye even after their fast, they would soon intensify their agitation in the coming days, informed the lawyers.
